New Backyard Friend #2

This is just the latest, of my backyard friends. Is he a falcon? I love birds, but sure don't know much about them. He was seen earlier in the week, swooping down for a rabbit. Sure glad I didn't see that! I would have been crying like crazy! Anyway, if he isn't a falcon, please let me know what he is. Thanks!

Billy you better stay close to mom and dad when you go outside...that fine feathered friend has some sharp claws. I believe he might be some type of hawk. I'd have to see his tail feathers to be sure.

Oh wow, I looked up your visitor in the Sibley Bird Guide: he's a Florida Red SHOULDERED Hawk!
I didn't realize it, but they come in 3 kinds:
CA, Eastern and Florida! They are one of my favorite hawks because they are gregarious, you hear them calling before you see them!!
Very cool bird to keep the snakes down!!

I was thinking it might be a kite, but I'll defer to Kathy on this one because she knows her birds! Yikes, keep Billy inside. Here in Oklahoma, one has to protect small dogs from coyotes.

Not certain....I have never seen one before. Very cool looking bird. I would not want to see them hunt either. I like eagles too but I don't want to see them in action....
